Adventures in Soccerland

I never thought I'd be one of those moms. Driving my van full of munchkins to sit for hours and watch little ones do their best (or not so best in some cases) to chase down a ball, turn it around and trip over their teammates, in an attempt to run back the other way and score, hopefully not in their own net. Hey, when your running and staring at the ground, it's easy for things to get turned around. Ahhhh, the soccer field.

Not that there is anything wrong with being a soccer/hockey/gymnast mom. I love hanging out and cheering them on. It's just totally out of my element. Being athletically challenged as a child I didn't play many sports, or watch them. Hubby, however, could only be more in his element if he was the one actually playing the sports.

This year Big Brother is 6 and Little Brother is 5. BB plays Friday nights, LB plays Saturday mornings, and Hubby coaches(both teams). So basically we spend the majority of our weekends baking in the sun on a giant treeless field. Seriously, 10 soccer feilds, not one tiny tree. BG and I hang out on the sidelines, cheering on the boys and waving at Daddy across the feild. Sometimes we rock and sing lulabys and nursery rhymes.... if we rock and sing long enough we often forget we're not in our own private bubble.

crazy face game

Last week I managed to lose BG (who, btw, is not this guy. Hey Happyhoursue! Sorry, I couldn't help it. I somehow read Bathtub Gangsta back to myself, instead of Baby Girl. Anyhow,....). A friend and I were chatting, while watching the game. Checking on the kiddies every few minutes. When BG and TG(TrickyGirl) went missing.

Now, these two have been besties since birth. They're like sister's, but they're not related. They love eachother, play awesome, but if someone gets mad, take cover, it's not going to be pretty. - is there a rule about how many commas one can place in a single sentence? just curious :) Needless to say, they get in a little trouble every once in awhile.

We checked all the other groups of children near us, in the grass around the field (these girls are so tiny, if they lie in the grass it's hard to see them). Can anyone guess where we found the two 3 year olds? Anyone?

YA! That's right, playing in the porta potty. Ewwwwwww!!! I couldn't even search through the pictures without gagging just a little. BG is facinated with this thing. Every time we go the field she suddenly has to go. These things have to be one of the grossest inventions ever!

So we brougt them back, and cleaned them up(they were fine, we just wanted to sterilize them in case of germs we couldn't see), and kept them very close for the rest of the game. How do you keep a 3 year old entertained at a soccer field for 2 hours? ...Any ideas?

.... p.s. this week at the soccer field I had a tiny real life Twilight experience. You know the cafeteria scene, with the apple? hmmmm...., my hubby, with a soccerball... ahhhh. He may not have a six pack or want to drain out all my blood, but I love him longgg time ;)
